Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens
Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens near the town of Mount Pleasant on the Atlantic
coast is a former cotton plantation from before the Civil War. Nowadays there is
a museum that can be visited. The first written record goes back to 1681. The
plantation is still used today, strawberries are grown, so the Boone Hall
Plantation looks back on a useful life of over 320 years and is one of the
oldest in the USA. The entire area of the Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens
covers 65,000 mē and the main building in Colonial Revival style is particularly
worth seeing. This was built from 1933 to 1935 and replaced the main building
from 1790. There are also some "slave huts" and a very photogenic oak avenue
(Avenue of Oaks). This oak avenue, which is the entrance to the main building,
was created in 1743 and is over 1.5 km long. Those who walk on it come very
close to the old southern states.

Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail
The Vermountain Victory National Historic Trail runs through the states of North
Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. The historical route from 1780
follows the march of the pioneers who crossed the Appalachian Mountains and thus
initiated the western expansion of the USA. The trail has a length of approx.
530 km and is therefore one of the long-distance hiking trails. However, the
entire trail has not yet been completed as a long-distance hiking trail. The
Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail has been part of the National
Trails System since 1980.

Walnut Grove Plantation near Spartanburg
The Walnut Grove Plantation near the city of Spartanburg is a historic
plantation on the property of Charles Moore and Mary Moore, which was owned by
King George III. got free. The house, which still exists today, was built in
1765 and can now be viewed on a tour. A historical school building, a barn and
other buildings can also be visited as part of this tour. Walnut Grove
Plantation has been on the list of Historic Places since 1970.

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site at Mount Pleasant
The Charles Pinckney National Historic Site in the town of Mount Pleasant is
dedicated to the preservation of Charles Pinckney's historic farm. Charles
Pinckney was one of the signatories to the Declaration of Independence. The
entire complex covers an area of approx. 120,000 mē and the farm's main house,
which was built in 1828, deserves special mention. The farm has been on the
National Historic Landmarks list since 1973 and has been a National Historic
Site since 1988.

Special buildings and structures
South Carolina State House in Columbia
The South Carolina State House is the government building of the state of South
Carolina and is located in the capital, Columbia. Construction of the South
Carolina State House began in 1855, but was completed due to the civil war and
its effects in 1907. Union troops bombarded the building during the capture of
the city of Columbia. Today bronze stars can be found where cannonballs hit. The
South Carolina State House is built in the style of the Greek Revival and the
dome of the building measures 55 m in height. There are also monuments and
statues on the grounds of the South Carolina State House. The South Carolina
State House has been on the list of National Historic Landmarks since 1976.

Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown
The Kaminski House Museum in the city of Georgetown is a historic
building from the early 18th century, probably from the year 1769. The Kaminski
House has been owned by the city since 1972 and is now a museum in the there are
many historical pieces of furniture and other furnishings. Next to the Kaminski
House is the Stewart Parker House from the 1740s. Both houses are located on
Front Street and have a very nice view of the Sampit River.

Capitol Center in Columbia
The Capitol Center in the city of Columbia has a height of approx. 106
m and is the tallest building in South Carolina. The Capitol Center serves as an
office building with approximately 400 offices and up to 2,000 employees. The
Capitol Center was built from 1985 to 1987.

Gervais Street Bridge in Columbia
The Gervais Street Bridge in the city of Columbia is a historic reinforced
concrete bridge that was built between 1926 and 1928. The arch bridge with a
length of 431 m spans the Congaree River and thus leads the US Highway 1 from
bank to bank. Gervais Street Bridge has been on the list of Historic Places
since 1980.
